Lab Philosophy

Research is a long journey.

Our goal is to help students develop the essential strengths needed to
navigate this journey with curiosity, rigor, and independence.

The key strengths and qualities
we aim to cultivate in our lab

Formulating Meaningful
Research Questions

We encourage students to develop their own research questions and pursue unique research paths. Through both group and one-on-one discussions, we support students in refining creative ideas into clear, testable hypotheses. We guide them in shaping these ideas into rigorous research plans and in validating them through systematic methodologies. Our goal is to help students grow into independent researchers who can articulate a clear research vision and align their daily work with that vision.

Communicating Scientific
Findings Effectively

Clear communication is an essential skill for scientists. We help students develop strong scientific communication skills in both writing and speaking.

Lab members are encouraged to present their work in a variety of settings, including lab meetings, departmental seminars, conferences, and through manuscript writing. Through these experiences, students learn how to clearly present their findings, interpretations, and broader implications to diverse audiences.

Connecting Science with
Broader Society

Scientists are also members of society. We encourage students to stay engaged with the broader world and remain open to ideas beyond their own research domains. Lab members are encouraged to explore interests in areas such as the arts, economics, policy, and administration, and to reflect on how these domains intersect with science. By doing so, students gain a broader perspective on the role of research within society and their responsibilities as scientists.
